Description

M.C. Escher "Waterfall" Lithographic Reproduction After the 1961 Original

A black-and-white lithographic reproduction of M.C. Escher's "Waterfall" (Dutch: Waterval), one of the artist's most recognized impossible-object compositions, originally drawn in October 1961. The image depicts a self-feeding aqueduct in which water descends a zigzag channel, drives a millwheel, and apparently returns to its own source — a visual application of the Penrose triangle that Escher resolved through carefully managed perspective. Twin towers crowned with compound polyhedra anchor the construction; a terraced hillside, a woman hanging laundry, and a garden of tubular fungi populate the surrounding scene. The plate bears Escher's printed monogram and date notation "X-'61" at the lower right within the image.

This is a later reproduction print rather than an original lifetime lithograph from Escher's stones. It is presented unframed and double-matted in charcoal and cream, ready for framing.

CONDITION

Excellent. No damage noted to the print. Sheet presents cleanly within the mat window with no visible toning, foxing, or handling creases.
