Boston Whitehall Tender Hand-Built Wood Model Rowing Boat with Display Stand
A finely detailed scale model of a Boston Whitehall Tender, the classic 19th-century American harbor rowing boat that worked the wharves of Boston and New York from the 1820s onward. The model is plank-on-frame construction in light hardwood, with a crisp white-painted lapstrake hull, varnished mahogany sheer strake and inwale, and an open interior showing the full frame structure, thwarts, floorboards, and sternsheets. Two varnished oars are included and rest in the rowlocks. The hull lifts cleanly off its display cradle.
The Whitehall was prized for its speed, tracking, and seaworthiness — a wineglass transom, fine entry, and long waterline made it the preferred boat for ship's chandlers, harbor pilots, and watermen racing out to incoming vessels for business. Decorative ship models of this type are a staple of nautical interiors, study libraries, and coastal homes. Mounted on a varnished hardwood cradle with brass nameplate reading "BOSTON WHITEHALL TENDER." Unmarked as to maker.
CONDITION
Very Good and complete. No remarkable damage; very minor scuffing consistent with light handling. Hull, oars, and stand all present and sound.
