Boston Whitehall Tender Wooden Model Boat with Oars & Display Stand
A scratch-built display model of a Boston Whitehall Tender, the classic 19th-century American pulling boat first developed along the New York and Boston waterfronts for ferrying passengers, watermen, and ship's crews. The model is constructed of planked wood with a glossy white hull, mahogany-toned sheer strake and gunwale, and an exposed interior showing ribbed framing, thwarts, floorboards, and stern sheets. A small brass nameplate reading BOSTON WHITEHALL TENDER identifies the subject on the cradle.
The hull lifts cleanly off its mahogany-finished display cradle, and the two pine oars are removable. Whitehall tenders were prized for their speed under oar and their fine entry — a working craft that became the template for American recreational rowing well into the early 20th century. Unmarked as to maker.
CONDITION
Very Good and complete. No remarkable damage; very minor scuffing consistent with light handling. Hull separates from base as designed; both oars present and removable.
