Brass Conch Shell (Shankha) Form Counter Bell with Plunger
A solid cast brass counter bell modeled in the form of a shankha — the sacred conch shell of South Asian tradition. The body rests on an integral stepped base that follows the natural curve of the shell, with a domed plunger rising from the crown to activate the bell mechanism housed within. The brass has been polished to a bright finish across the smooth, sculptural surface, with subtle hand-finishing marks catching the light along the spire and aperture.
The conch shell holds deep symbolic weight across Hindu and Buddhist iconography, traditionally sounded at the opening of ceremonies and used as a call to attention — a fitting metaphor for the humble counter bell. This example is unmarked as to maker, with a felt-lined underside to protect the surface it rests on. Tested and fully functional with a clear, sharp ring.
CONDITION
Good. Tested and fully functional. Minor scuffing to the polished brass surface; no remarkable damage.
