Description

Tall Hand-Carved & Painted Cat Sculpture, 61¾" H

A tall, slender folk art cat sculpture carved from a single piece of solid wood and finished with hand-painted detail. The figure stands just over five feet, with the elongated stylization typical of decorative carved cats produced for the global home-goods market — pointed ears, a long tapered neck, a sinuous body, and four straight legs carved into the lower block. The face is painted with wide round eyes, a small triangular nose, and whiskered cheeks; the body is finished in dark stained tones with hand-applied orange spiral motifs scattered across the neck, torso, and legs.

Pieces of this scale read as floor sculpture, intended to anchor a corner, an entry, or a sunroom rather than sit on a shelf. The single-block construction is visible in the natural grain that runs the full length of the figure, and the painted spirals retain enough wear and irregularity to give the piece a handmade, folk-art character rather than a factory finish.

CONDITION

Good overall. Scuffing and scratching throughout the painted surface, with paint loss and abrasion concentrated on the body and base. A natural split runs vertically through the lower portion of the figure — stable, consistent with single-block wood construction, and visible in the supplemental reference images.
