Mid-Century Modern Three-Piece Living Room Table Set, Hourglass Supports, 1960s
A matched three-piece grouping — long rectangular coffee table plus a pair of two-tier step-end tables — in the warm walnut-tone laminate-over-solid-wood construction typical of quality American residential furniture of the late 1950s and 1960s. The end tables are the design statement of the set: sculpted hourglass-form supports link the upper and lower tiers, the lower shelf riding on four splayed 2" turned legs that taper to points. The coffee table runs the same vocabulary in a leaner key — softly rounded rectangular top, same turned legs, no shelf. All three read as a suite.
The hourglass support is one of the more architecturally resolved details in American mid-century occasional furniture — genuinely hard to execute in wood, which is why cheaper producers skipped it. Collectors moving through a first house or rounding out a living room will find this set immediately deployable; buyers upgrading a 1950s–60s interior will recognize the idiom on sight. Legs are removable on all three pieces for transport.
CONDITION
Good overall with honest signs of use. All three pieces are sturdy and stable. Light scuffing and minor edge wear to the laminate surfaces; turned legs show age-appropriate finish wear. Nothing structural.
