Description

1950s Remington Rand Quiet-Riter Portable Typewriter with Tweed Case

There is a version of American writing life in the 1950s that belongs entirely to this machine. The Remington Quiet-Riter was the portable for people who actually wrote — not the occasional letter, but deadlines, drafts, correspondence that mattered. Sound-dampened action, a full-travel keyboard, and the MiracleTab tabulator that made column work and formatted letters effortless. It went where the writer went, latched into its tweed case and carried by hand onto trains, into hotel rooms, onto kitchen tables at midnight.

This example is complete and working — not a shelf piece. The pebble-grey shell is crisp, the green keytops are intact and unmarked, the bichrome ribbon is loaded, and the MiracleTab carriage rail is clearly marked. The rear panel carries the Remington Rand decal: Patented in U.S.A. and Foreign Countries — Made in U.S.A. The tweed case is original, with its tan-flocked interior, working latch, and intact leather-wrapped handle. Staff tested it fully operational with all functions working.

CONDITION

Very Good. Tested fully functional — all functions operational, ribbon advancing, carriage and tab mechanism working correctly. Gentle signs of use only; no damage, no missing keys, no cracks to the shell. Case interior shows light surface wear to the flocking consistent with age.
