Vintage Aluminum Railroad Crossing Highway Sign, 36" Round
A genuine retired railroad crossing warning sign in the classic yellow-and-black W10-1 configuration — a large round aluminum disc with a bold black X and flanking R R letters on a high-visibility yellow field. The face carries the honest record of decades trackside: a dense web of fine scratches across the black crossbuck, scattered paint chips and pings, oxidation creeping in along the rim, and small areas of impact loss exposing bare aluminum beneath. Two factory mounting holes remain at the top and bottom of the disc.
Originally posted at a grade crossing to warn motorists of an approaching set of tracks, signs of this size and pattern have been retired from active service across the country as departments upgrade to reflective sheeting. The patina here is the kind no reproduction can fake — sun-bleached yellow, weather-scoured black, and the subtle bow and edge wear of a sign that did its job for many years before coming down. Reads strong as graphic wall art for a garage, bar, railroadiana collection, or industrial interior.
CONDITION
Good with age-appropriate wear consistent with long outdoor service. Heavy surface scratching concentrated at the center X, scattered paint chips and small losses around the perimeter and across the face, edge oxidation, and minor denting. Graphics remain bold and fully legible.
