Bentwood Hall Tree with Umbrella Stand, Thonet Style
A bentwood hall tree in the Thonet tradition, with a swiveling crown of eight scrolled bentwood hooks above a turned central column. The lower section incorporates a circular bentwood umbrella ring supported on three arched legs, giving the piece its characteristic silhouette: a tall, slender column flaring at both ends. Solid wood construction throughout, unmarked, with a warm mid-tone finish.
The form has been a fixture of European and American entryways since Michael Thonet first industrialized steam-bent beech furniture in the mid-19th century. This is a recently manufactured example in the traditional style — disassembles at the column for convenient transportation, making it practical for a foyer, mudroom, shop, or studio.
CONDITION
Good. Light fading and finish wear consistent with use, with minor finish loss in scattered areas. Structurally sound; crown swivels as intended.
