Description

1971 Austria 25 Schilling Silver Coin — Bicentennial of the Vienna Stock Exchange

1971 Austrian 25 Schilling commemorative, issued by the Republic of Austria to mark the 200th anniversary of the Wiener Börse (Vienna Stock Exchange). Designed by Rudolf Tiefenthaler and struck in .800 fine silver at the Austrian Mint (Münze Österreich) in Vienna, which produced this issue without a mint mark.

The obverse depicts the historic Wiener Börse building in detailed architectural elevation, with the legend WIENER BÖRSE arched above and the commemorative dates 1771–1971 along the lower edge. The engraver's signature TIEFENTHALER appears in the exergue below the building. The reverse displays the nine provincial coats of arms of Austria encircling the central denomination 25 SCHILLING, with REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH running around the periphery.

The Wiener Börse, chartered in 1771 under Empress Maria Theresa, is among the oldest continuously operating stock exchanges in continental Europe. The 1971 bicentennial issue forms part of Austria's silver commemorative Schilling series produced between 1955 and 1973.
