Antique Americana Lot — Sun Brand Lantern, Weston Ohmmeter, Kitchen Tools & Packer's Tar Soap Tin
A six-piece grouping of early twentieth-century Americana drawn from one collector's working life and household. The lot pairs industrial test equipment with everyday kitchen tools and one of the more graphic small advertising tins of the period. Highlights include a Weston Electrical Instrument Corp. Model 689 Ohmmeter, Type 1-F, in its original leather field case with bakelite housing and porcelain dial reading to 1,000 ohms; a small red Sun Brand No. 3500 kerosene lantern made in Japan with intact glass globe and wire bail; and a graphic Packer's Tar Soap lithographed tin (New York, USA) with bathing-ship imagery in red, green, and yellow on cream ground.
The kitchen group includes an A&J rotary egg beater with chipped green-and-cream wood handles, patent-dated OCT. 9, 1923, mounted to a nickeled bowl rest; a green-handled wire potato masher; and a wire-frame jar lifter or canning tong with green-painted grip. Together the pieces document a slice of interwar American domestic and technical life — kitchen, workbench, washstand, and barn — in a single compact lot.
CONDITION
Good overall with honest age and use throughout. Lantern shows paint loss and scattered scuffing; ohmmeter case is scuffed with adhesive residue and a torn label panel on the front; kitchen tools show expected paint chipping to wood handles and light oxidation to wire and steel; soap tin shows edge wear and minor label rubbing. Ohmmeter not tested for function.
