Description

Bell System-C First Aid Kit, Unused — Olive Drab Steel Case with Original Contents

Before the 1984 breakup, Bell System field crews — linemen, splicers, central office technicians — carried these olive drab kits in their trucks and on their belts. This one never got opened. The gold stenciling is crisp, the dual spring latches snap clean, and both compartments are packed exactly as they left the warehouse: antiseptic applicators, gauze compresses, triangular bandages, medicated ointment envelopes, aromatic spirit of ammonia vials, wound wipes, and stainless scissors tucked in at the side. Every box carries the Liberty Bell logo, marking the contents as proprietary Bell System issue distributed through Marion Health & Safety and Medical Supply Co. of Rockford, Illinois, and Pac-Kit Co. of Norwalk, Connecticut.

The lid holds the original Arrangement of Contents card (Form E3768) — and someone actually filled in the emergency contact lines in ballpoint: Dr. Nassberg, Holy Cross Hospital, Orland Park Rescue, Poison Control. That places this kit at a Bell facility in the Chicago suburbs, sometime before divestiture ended the Bell System as a unified entity. It sat in storage after that, undisturbed, which is exactly why it's interesting now.

CONDITION

Very Good. Contents unused; dusty from storage. Exterior shows light scuffing and minor scratches consistent with shelf storage; gold lettering remains crisp and fully legible. Latches and handle function properly. Interior supply boxes are intact with original printing sharp throughout.
