Frederick Carter Signed Print, Steam Locomotive at Night Station
A print by Frederick Carter depicting a vivid nighttime scene of a 19th-century steam locomotive pulled up alongside a green clapboard depot. The composition is alive with color — the red cowcatcher and boiler glow against a deep cobalt sky, smoke billowing in warm orange plumes beneath a hazy moon. A gathered group of figures in period dress — men in vests and broad-brimmed hats, a woman in a long skirt, two children with a lantern — stand on the platform as the train arrives. The name "Frederick Carter" appears in the printing at the lower right.
Carter is known for his richly saturated palette and theatrical staging of Western Americana subjects — frontier towns, locomotives, riders, and historical genre scenes rendered with a near-stage-set quality of light and color.
CONDITION
Good with no remarkable damage. Colors remain saturated and the sheet presents cleanly. Unframed.
