Description

Navajo Seven-Stone Sleeping Beauty Turquoise Row Cuff, 14K Gold & Sterling

A substantial Navajo row cuff set with seven Sleeping Beauty turquoise nuggets in scalloped 14K yellow gold bezels, each separated by gold drop beads on a blackened recessed channel. The stones graduate from the center outward and carry the characteristic bright cyan-to-sky blue of the Sleeping Beauty Mine, Globe, Arizona — here with bold black webbed matrix, a variation found in earlier production runs before the mine's 2012 closure shifted output toward the solid blues that defined its final decades. The shank is constructed as a double split band in sterling silver, with applied 14K gold filed-and-notched terminals that carry the gold accent through to the terminals of the cuff.

The piece is unsigned but confident in its construction — two-tone gold-on-silver Navajo work in a tradition that matured through the 1970s and 1980s, when heavier silver shanks married to gold bezels and drop-bead detailing became a hallmark of accomplished Diné smiths. Both metals are tested sterling and 14K. Sleeping Beauty's closure in 2012 made its stones a finite resource; natural, matrix-bearing examples in matched sets of this size are increasingly sought in the collector market. Sourced from a private collection of fine Navajo jewelry.

CONDITION

Good. All seven stones secure in their bezels with no chips or fractures to the turquoise. Light surface tarnish to the silver shank and oxidation in the recessed channel — we'll leave the polishing to you.
