Description

Navajo 14K Gold & Turquoise Squash Blossom Necklace, Signed W.T. —

An unusual and substantial 14K yellow gold Navajosquash blossom necklace, signed W.T. and marked 14K on the verso of the naja. Sixteen stone-set blossoms — each cradling two turquoise cabochons in scalloped bezels with applied gold beadwork — flank a dramatic cluster naja set with twenty-one stones. The four-petal blossom construction reflects an older Navajo working method, consistent with a date range from the 1980s–1990s, and the scale and material choice suggest this piece may have been built for competition or exhibition rather than everyday retail.

Gold squash blossoms are genuinely scarce — the vast majority of these necklaces are executed in sterling. Here the maker has worked the blossoms, beads, and fluted petals in 14K, reserving sterling silver only for the naja backing and the hook clasp. The fifty-three turquoise stones are bright, well-matched natural nuggets with heavy black matrix, set in the rough rather than polished smooth — a deliberate choice that lets the stone read as stone. Strung double on a sterling fox tail chain.

Authenticity

Naja signed W.T. and stamped 14K on the verso. Gold content of blossoms and beads verified along with the 14K mark. The back of the naja and clasp are sterling silver. Maker attribution beyond the W.T. initials is not established.

CONDITION

Excellent. Gold retains a polished, bright surface throughout with no notable dents or losses to the blossoms or fluted petals. All fifty-three turquoise stones are present and secure in their bezels. Sterling naja and clasp show light surface patina consistent with age.
