Flo Hosa Dougherty (1924–2018) Original Abstract Watercolor, Santa Fe Artist
Original abstract watercolor by Flo Hosa Dougherty (1924–2018), the Santa Fe painter and founder of Hosa Gallery on Canyon Road. The composition layers geometric planes of olive, ochre, and dusty rose against bursts of magenta and violet wet-on-wet washes, with feathered drybrush strokes radiating from the central passage. Signed lower right in the artist's characteristic hand. Professionally framed under glass in a green leatherette molding with gilt fillet.
Dougherty was a fixture of the New Mexico art world from the 1960s onward, both as a working watercolorist and as a gallerist who championed regional artists for decades on Canyon Road. Her own paintings move fluidly between representational landscape and pure abstraction, and this piece sits firmly in the latter mode — a study in transparent layering and controlled spontaneity that rewards close looking.
CONDITION
Very Good. No visible damage to the sheet; colors remain fresh and saturated. Frame and glazing intact with light wear to the molding consistent with age.
