Corona Decor Co. Basket of Flowers Tapestry on Black Ground
A classical floral still life rendered in jacquard tapestry weave by Corona Decor Co., manufacturers and importers of tapestries and wall décor. The composition centers a woven basket overflowing with roses, tulips, hydrangeas, peonies, and assorted garden blooms in soft pinks, corals, creams, and pale blues — all set against a deep black ground that throws the palette into high relief. The arrangement rests on a shallow ledge, a single rose tumbling forward at the lower left in the manner of 17th-century Dutch flower painting.
A decorative scrollwork border in tan and burgundy frames the field on all four sides, finished with bound edges for hanging. The verso retains the original Corona Decor Co. crown label marked Art. No. 1501 and titled in pencil "Basket with Flowers." Acquired December 1995 from Barbara Spark for $319.12
CONDITION
Good. No remarkable damage. Colors remain saturated and the weave is intact throughout, with light handling creases consistent with storage.
