Yoshitoku Dolls Japanese Geisha Doll in Ebonized Glass Display Case
A traditional Japanese nihon ningyō by Yoshitoku Dolls of Tokyo, presented mid-stride in a flowing silk kimono of pale celadon with woven chrysanthemum medallions, sashed by a dark obi with brocade accents. The figure's coiffed black hair is dressed with a red-tipped kanzashi hairpin, and her composition face carries the classical pale complexion and painted features of the Yoshitoku tradition. She is staged on a kiri-wood plinth against a brushed gold-leaf ground, accompanied by scattered paper fans, a red lacquered andon lantern stand, and a signed wooden title plaque reading 行灯 ("Andon") with the maker's mark for 吉徳大光 (Yoshitoku Taikō).
Founded in 1711 in Edo, Yoshitoku is one of Japan's oldest and most respected doll houses, known for ceremonial Hina and Gogatsu figures as well as decorative ningyō intended for the tokonoma alcove. The ebonized wood and glass display case is original to the piece, with a hinged front door, brass knob, and gold tassel pull, and bears the oval Yoshitoku Dolls — Tokyo foil label inside the base.
CONDITION
Good overall. The gold-leaf backing panel shows fading and tonal variation throughout. The kimono silks remain bright with minor loose threads at the obi area. Case glass and ebonized frame are intact with light handling wear; hinged front door operates correctly.
