Henriette Wyeth "Death and the Child" Signed Color Lithograph Poster
Pencil-signed color reproduction of Henriette Wyeth's haunting allegorical painting "Death and the Child," with the title and artist printed in the lower margin and the artist's signature in graphite at the lower right. The image — a pale, draped figure reaching toward a luminous nude child against a darkly atmospheric ground — ranks among Wyeth's most psychologically charged compositions, drawing on the European symbolist tradition she absorbed during her training under her father N.C. Wyeth and her studies abroad.
Henriette Wyeth Hurd (1907–1997), eldest of the Wyeth siblings and wife of New Mexico painter Peter Hurd, spent the bulk of her career at Sentinel Ranch in San Patricio, New Mexico, painting portraits, still lifes, and allegorical subjects that bridge the Brandywine tradition with the light and landscape of the region. Signed prints from her estate carry steady regional collector demand, particularly in New Mexico and west Texas. Professionally framed under glass with double gray mat and a silver-finish carved frame.
CONDITION
Print grades Very Good with clean image and crisp signature. Frame grades Good with finish wear and a small loss to the inner gilt edge at the lower rail. Not examined out of frame.
