Attilio Droandi "I Cavalieri della Giostra del Saracino di Arezzo" Framed Print, 1981
A colorful commemorative print by Attilio Droandi, dated 1981 and printed by Tipografia Basagni of Arezzo, depicting the knights of the Giostra del Saracino — the historic Saracen Joust of Arezzo, Tuscany. The composition arrays mounted knights in heraldic caparisons across five registers, each figure identified by a ribbon banner naming the family or office: Capitano di Campo, Maestro d'Armi, Araldo, and the captains of the four city quarters (Porta Crucifera, Porta del Foro, Porta Sant'Andrea, Porta Santo Spirito), alongside historic Aretine families including Albergotti, Lambardi, Tarlati, Ubertini, Accolti, and Guiducci. A small notation reading "errato: rosso su oro" appears beside the Dragondelli knight — a printed errata note acknowledging a color reversal in the heraldry.
Droandi's stylized linework and saturated palette draw on medieval manuscript illumination while reading distinctly mid-20th-century Italian in their graphic clarity. Signed in plate Attilio Droandi 1981 at lower right with a printed maker's mark and the Basagni Tipografia credit at the lower margin. Matted on red and presented behind glass in a gilt metal frame.
CONDITION
Good. Some debris behind the glass and minor scuffs to the frame. No remarkable damage to the print itself.
