Eileen Raucher-Sutton Night-Blooming Cereus Watercolor & Ink, Signed & Dated
An original watercolor and ink on paper by listed American artist Eileen Raucher-Sutton (b. 1939), signed and dated lower right "Eileen Raucher-Sutton '83." The composition centers on a fully opened night-blooming cereus — the spidery black stigma, cascading stamens, and reflexed white tepals rendered in fine pen-and-ink line over loose, atmospheric watercolor washes. The background dissolves into pooled greens, ochres, and rust against deep nocturnal grays, evoking the single-night bloom for which the cereus is famous.
Raucher-Sutton built her career on botanical and floral subjects executed in this signature mixed-media approach, combining controlled draftsmanship with wet-on-wet watercolor atmosphere. The piece is professionally framed and double-matted behind glass in a gilt wood frame, presentation-ready.
CONDITION
Excellent. No damage noted. Colors remain fresh and the ink line is crisp. Frame, mats, and glazing present cleanly.
