Franciscan Apple Hand-Decorated Cups & Saucers, Service for 10
A complete service of twenty pieces in Franciscan Apple, the hand-painted California earthenware pattern introduced by Gladding, McBean & Co. in 1940 and produced continuously for decades. Each cup carries the signature red apple with green leaves on a warm cream ground, finished with a sculpted branch-form handle and rust-tipped rim band on the matching saucers.
Backstamps read Franciscan — Made in California, U.S.A. — Hand Decorated — Gladding, McBean & Co. — Oven-Safe, dating these pieces to the American production era before the line moved to England in 1984. Apple was the longest-running pattern Franciscan ever made and remains a staple of mid-century American table-setting collections. Ten cups and ten saucers make this lot well-suited to a full holiday table or to filling gaps in an existing service.
CONDITION
Very Good with no remarkable damage. Light surface wear consistent with gentle use; glaze remains bright and decoration crisp across all twenty pieces.
