Tom Sims '99 Signed Gourd Art — Bear & Dream Catcher, Leather, Feathers, Beads
A handcrafted gourd vessel by Tom Sims of Borrego Springs, California, signed and dated '99 on the base. The naturally cured gourd displays warm amber and mottled brown tones with distinctive burl-like surface texture across the upper body. The primary decorative panel combines pyrography and paint to depict a bear in profile overlaid with a dream catcher featuring orange, white, and black feather motifs. The neck is finished with laced suede leather threaded through the rim and accented with natural feathers and wood beads.
The lot includes the original artist hang tag identifying the work as "a gourd" by Tom Sims, Borrego Springs, CA, with the original $55 retail price, along with a handwritten provenance card reading "Borrego Valley Inn, Nov. 1999."
CONDITION Good. The painted decoration is vivid and intact, and the leather lacing and feathers remain supple. Light shelf wear is present to the gourd's exterior surface, consistent with age and display.
