Mexican Pine Spindle-Front Display Cabinet with Carved Bonnet Crest
A tall two-door display cabinet in the Spanish Colonial Revival tradition, built in pine and finished in a deep matte umber-brown that lets the warmer honey tones of the turned spindles read through. The arched bonnet top carries hand-carved acanthus scrollwork and a central rosette, set above a pair of full-height doors fitted with five vertically turned spindles per panel — twenty turnings across the facade, each shaped with ring, vase, and bead profiles. Brass drop pulls at the door meeting stiles and a stepped molded base with a single lower drawer complete the composition. The back panel is particleboard/hardboard, consistent with mid-to-late 20th-century Mexican production furniture.
Inside, four fixed shelves provide open display across the full interior width — a strong showcase for pottery, books, glassware, or carved santos. The spindle-fronted doors lend the piece an open, breathable presence rather than the closed weight of a typical armoire, while the carved bonnet crest carries the eye upward. The painted finish wears its history honestly throughout, and the solid, functional bones make this a rewarding candidate for a full refinish or refresh.
CONDITION
Good overall, rustic by design. The painted finish shows scattered scuffs, scratches, and small chips revealing lighter pine beneath — most notably along the upper right corner of the case, at the door edges near the hinges, on the drawer front, and along the base molding. A vertical separation runs along one front stile, and the back panel shows a split in the lower section. Doors operate on their hinges; the single lower drawer is solid and functional with dovetail construction.
