Forest Designs Oak Showcase New Mexico Style Armoire with Stepped Pueblo Motifs

A substantial solid oak armoire built by Forest Designs of Phoenix, Arizona, for Oak Showcase of Las Cruces, New Mexico. The piece is defined by its stepped geometric ornament — applied oak appliqués in a pueblo cloud-terrace motif decorate every drawer front and both cabinet doors, with the same stepped silhouette carried up into the cornice flanking the central cabinet bay. Twelve drawers run on heavy-duty metal glides, with the four lower drawers cedar-lined for clothing or linen storage. Twin upper cabinet doors open to a fixed shelf and one adjustable shelf with cord pass-throughs at the back panel, making the bay equally suitable as a media cabinet or a wardrobe.

Oak Showcase was a longstanding Mesilla Valley furniture retailer specializing in regional oak casegoods, and pieces like this one were built to anchor a master bedroom or great room in the territorial and pueblo-revival homes common across southern New Mexico. The construction is honest and heavy — solid oak throughout the visible surfaces, with the kind of mass that rewards a permanent placement.

CONDITION

Good overall. A 2½" chip is present to the lower right side of the case at the base. Two small finish stains are noted to the top interior shelf, and the top surface shows finish wear consistent with use. Drawers operate smoothly on their rails and the cabinet doors close cleanly.
