Description

Franciscan Apple Earthenware Covered Vegetable Bowl, Made in USA

Classic Franciscan Apple covered vegetable bowl in the hand-painted pattern that has anchored American family tables since 1940. The oval form carries the familiar red apples, green leaves, and twisting brown branches across the lid and body, with twig-form handles and a sculpted apple finial completing the orchard motif. Cream earthenware ground; underglaze hand-decoration in the Gladding, McBean & Co. tradition.

Backstamped Franciscan Earthenware, Made in U.S.A. placing production at the Los Angeles factory before the pattern moved to English manufacture in 1984. Apple was Franciscan's first and longest-running hand-painted dinnerware line, and the covered vegetable is one of the more useful serving forms in the pattern — equally at home holding mashed potatoes for Sunday dinner or sitting empty on a shelf as a piece of mid-century California pottery.

CONDITION

Excellent. No chips, cracks, or damage noted. Glaze is bright and the hand-painted decoration remains crisp throughout.
