Rustic Kiva-Style Branch Wood Leaning Blanket Ladder
Built from peeled branch wood with every natural curve and taper left exactly as the tree made them, this leaning ladder carries the quiet character that only organic material can produce. The two side rails bow and wander just slightly — no two matching — while six rungs span between them, each one its own shape, secured with small metal fasteners at the joints. Knots punctuate the surface at irregular intervals, and the wood holds a warm honey tone that deepens toward the grain lines.
The kiva ladder is one of the oldest forms in Pueblo architecture, originally cut from the forests above the Rio Grande and set through roof openings to connect the levels of multi-story dwellings. As a decorative object it has never really left the region — leaned against an adobe wall with a Navajo blanket draped over a rung, it does more work than most furniture twice its price. This one is hand-assembled rather than manufactured, which means the slight irregularities are the whole point: the gentle sway of the rails, the organic rung profiles, the knots that catch the light differently depending on where you stand.
CONDITION
Very Good. Construction is sturdy with all rungs firmly attached and no loose joints. Natural checking, knot variation, and the gentle irregularity of the branch material are inherent to the form — Rustic by Design.
