Description

Tibetan Two-Drawer Side Table with Saffron Ground & Polychrome Florals

A compact Tibetan-Style painted side table in the classic saffron-yellow tradition, with all-surface hand-painted decoration: cloud scrolls (ruyi), peony, lotus, and trailing botanical motifs rendered in green, rose, navy, and cream across the everted top, drawer fronts, shaped apron, and cabriole legs. The side panels carry quieter ink-style sprays of orchid and butterfly, balancing the densely patterned front. Two tongue-and-groove drawers open on small iron ring pulls set in painted cloud-shaped escutcheons, and the legs terminate in tightly turned scroll feet — a hallmark of the form.

Tibetan painted furniture draws on a centuries-long tradition of monastery and domestic decorative woodwork, where the saffron ground and Buddhist-derived floral vocabulary carry both aesthetic and devotional weight. The compact nightstand scale makes it equally at home as an accent piece, bedside table, or entry catch-all.

CONDITION

Good. Sturdy throughout with both drawers operating cleanly on tongue-and-groove runners. Finish wear and minor paint loss from age across high-touch surfaces and edges — part of the rustic, hand-painted character. No remarkable damage.
