Description

Mexican Hand-Painted Terracotta Cactus & Roadrunner Planter

A round-bellied terracotta planter hand-painted in the Mexican folk pottery tradition, decorated with a desert scene of saguaro cactus, prickly pear, agave, a stylized roadrunner, and a flock of birds drifting overhead. The glossy black rim and base frame the matte terracotta ground, while the figural elements pop in saturated greens, oranges, blues, reds, and yellows with characteristic dark outline work. Twin loop handles at the shoulders are glazed in deep cobalt to match the rim.

Marked "MEXICO" in black on the underside, with a single central drainage hole — built and finished as a working planter, not purely decorative. The crackle pattern in the glaze adds depth to the surface and is typical of low-fire Mexican earthenware. A cheerful, substantial piece that brings instant color to a portal, courtyard, or sunroom.

CONDITION

Good overall. Crazing throughout the glazed surfaces, consistent with the ware type. No chips or cracks noted.
