Holmegaard Smoked Glass Duckling Bowl by Per Lütken, Signed 1955
A hand-blown smoked glass bowl from Holmegaard Glasværk of Denmark, signed and dated to the polished base. The form belongs to the celebrated "Duckling" (Smoke) series — an asymmetrical organic shape with a softly drawn spout at one end and a gently lifted lip opposite, the silhouette reading as both leaf and waterfowl depending on the angle of view. The glass carries the signature warm-grey røgfarvet tone that made the series instantly recognizable on Scandinavian sideboards through the late 1950s and 1960s.
The Duckling series is most closely associated with Per Lütken, Holmegaard's chief designer from 1942 until his death in 1998, whose free-blown organic forms helped define the Danish Modern glass vocabulary. The signature on the underside reads "Holmegaard" with the date 1955, consistent with Lütken's standard signing practice. A sculptural object that functions equally well as a low centerpiece, catchall, or pure form on a shelf.
CONDITION
Excellent. Hand-blown with a polished pontil base. No chips, cracks, or remarkable damage; surface retains full gloss with only the faintest handling marks under raking light.
