Farmhouse Antique French Copper Graduated Saucepan Set of 5, Tin-Lined
A graduated nest of five heavy-gauge farmhouse antique French copper saucepans with hand-forged iron tail handles, each riveted to the body in the traditional manner with a looped hanging eye at the terminal — the hallmark of a working kitchen batterie rather than a decorative display set. Each pan is tin-lined and finished with the straight, deep sidewalls characteristic of the French casserole form. The copper exterior carries a warm, unpolished patina; the interiors show the honest scoring of extended working use across the tin surfaces.
The set graduates from a small butter-warming pan at ½ qt up through a useful 2¾ qt, covering the core working range of sauce cookery. The form, wall thickness, handle profile, and riveting pattern are consistent with late 19th to early 20th century French professional production — the period when copper shops supplied the bulk of European restaurant kitchens. The two largest pans carry interiors that have darkened significantly with heat history; the smaller three retain brighter tin. All five sit flat.
CONDITION
Good throughout. All five pans sit flat; visible scuffs, fine scratches, and minor dings are consistent with working use. Tin linings show wear and heat discoloration — notably darker on the two largest pans — but remain intact and continuous with no breaching or lifting observed. Iron handles carry light surface oxidation; rivets are solid on all pieces.
