Navajo Diamond Rug, Early 20th Century
A handsome Navajo regional rug woven in handspun wool, featuring twin serrated diamond design stacked vertically on a field of natural gray, ivory, and carded brown, accented with rose-pink and a touch of aniline red. Each central diamond carries a stepped cross motif at its core, framed by saw-tooth borders and concentric zigzag outlines — a vocabulary associated trading-post weavings of the early 20th century.
CONDITION
Fair. Overall UV fading throughout with softened color values. Wear to selvedge cords along both long edges with localized fraying. Several discrete areas of loss in the field — at least three small holes through to the warp (shown in supplemental reference images), with adjacent thinning and weft slippage. End finishes show partial loss of corner tassels and exposed warps at one end.
