Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh "The May Queen" Reproduction Panel, Framed
A framed reproduction of Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh's celebrated gesso frieze The May Queen, originally created in 1900 for Miss Cranston's Ingram Street Tea Rooms in Glasgow. The print is signed in the lower right plate "Margaret Macdonald," and the elongated stylized figures, rose motifs, and pale ochre tonality faithfully capture the Glasgow Style aesthetic that Macdonald developed alongside her husband Charles Rennie Mackintosh, her sister Frances, and Herbert MacNair — the group known as "The Four." Printed on a textured canvas-like substrate to mimic the original gesso surface, then set within a dark stained wood frame.
The original panel, now held in the collection of Glasgow Museums, is considered a defining work of the Scottish Art Nouveau movement and a cornerstone of Macdonald's reputation as one of the most influential women designers of the early twentieth century. This decorator-scale reproduction places that imagery at a comfortable wall size for a study, hallway, or sitting room.
