Amado Peña "Pareja Dos" 1981 — Framed Figural Couple in Serapes
DESCRIPTION Lithograph by Amado Maurilio Peña, Jr. (b. 1943), titled "Pareja Dos" and dated 1981, depicting two figures in profile wrapped in striped blankets and a serape with geometric banded trim. The composition is rendered in a soft palette of lavender, slate blue, mauve, and cream against a curtained backdrop of vertical color washes. Presented behind glass in a brass-finish gallery frame with double mat in muted terra-cotta and cream.
Peña is among the most widely collected Mexican-American artists of his generation, recognized for stylized depictions of Indigenous peoples of the desert borderlands. His 1981 works belong to an earlier, watercolor-driven phase of his career — softer and more painterly than the bold serigraphic style for which he later became known — and are sought by collectors for their figural intimacy and painterly subtlety.
CONDITION Very good condition overall. The image presents brightly with no visible fading, foxing, or mat burn. Brass-finish frame retains its color with light handling wear; glass is intact.
