Description

Butch Hall "Little Bird" Signed Cedar Native American Flute, B Minor, #87, 2010

A signed Butch Hall Native American-style flute in the key of B Minor, dated 2010 and numbered #87. The body is turned from aromatic cedar — warm, honey-toned grain running the full length — fitted with a contoured walnut block (the "bird," or fetish) lashed in place with black leather ties. A single inlaid turquoise cabochon marks the nest area between the true sound hole and the finger holes, that small green-blue dot serving as both tuning reference and a quiet nod to the material culture of the instrument's origins. Six cleanly drilled finger holes run the upper face; a faceted, tapered foot end closes the profile with the same precision found at the mouthpiece end.

The Native American flute is among the most accessible wind instruments in the world — pentatonic by nature, forgiving in technique, and capable of a breathy, meditative voice that rewards players at every level. Butch Hall is a long-established Texas-based maker whose instruments occupy a respected place in the NAF community, prized for consistent intonation and an even, open tone across registers. This example is signed in ink on the underside: "Little Bird / B Minor / #87 / 2010 / Butch Hall." The lot includes the flute, Hall's Lesson and Song Book for the Native American Flute and a carry case.

CONDITION

Excellent with gentle signs of use. Cedar surfaces are clean and well-finished; the turquoise inlay and walnut block are secure; leather ties are supple and intact. Maker's ink signature remains crisp and fully legible.
