Mid-Century Wrought Iron & Woven Rattan Magazine Rack, Sculptural V-Form
A sculptural mid-century magazine rack pairing a black wrought iron frame with tightly woven natural rattan panels rising into an open V. Four hand-forged iron rings anchor the upper corners — functional handles and decorative flourish at once — while splayed iron legs with disc feet hold the form aloft. The combination of dark iron and warm cane reads distinctly Franco-Italian, in the idiom of Mathieu Matégot and the Audoux-Minet workshop, though unsigned.
The piece folds flat for storage, a clever detail consistent with 1950s European studio production. Its low, lean profile suits use beside a lounge chair or sofa for periodicals, throws, or sheet music — equally at home as a sculptural object in its own right.
CONDITION
Good. No breaks in the wicker; weave remains tight and intact throughout. Iron frame shows minor paint wear consistent with age.
