Description

Handcrafted Brass & Wood Model Naval Cannon with Matching Powder Bucket, Signed WRN

A handsomely built display model of a naval ship's cannon on a four-wheeled garrison-style truck carriage, accompanied by a matching brass-banded powder bucket with hinged lid. The turned brass barrel features the classic reinforcing rings, swelled muzzle, cascabel knob, and trunnions with brass cap squares, all mounted to a stepped hardwood carriage with brass-studded wheels, ring bolts, and breeching hardware. The wheels turn and the barrel tilts on its trunnions for elevation adjustment, just as the full-scale originals did.

Both the cannon and the bucket are signed by the maker WRN and carry matching reference markings — the barrel stamped near the cascabel and the underside of the bucket inscribed "#7 3-17-73 WRN". The dated inscription suggests construction in March 1973 by a skilled modelmaker. The companion bucket — coopered hardwood staves bound by three brass hoops with riveted brass handles and a fitted lid — would have held powder charges or rammer tools aboard ship. A length of cordage with turned wood toggles is included.

CONDITION

Very Good overall. The brass barrel shows a warm aged patina with light surface oxidation and verdigris flecks in recesses; the hardwood carriage and bucket retain a rich finish with minor handling marks. All hardware is intact and functional — wheels roll and the barrel tilts smoothly on its trunnions.
