Lion Mask Pedestal, Carved Teak with Marble Inlay Top
A substantial carved teak pedestal built around a classical grotesque mask motif — the upper capital presenting a boldly rendered lion or leonine mask in high relief, with a layered scalework mane, expressive open-mouthed face, and scrolling foliate detail at the chin. Three swept legs descend from the capital, each deeply ribbed along a central shaft consistent with acanthus or stylized vegetal column forms, and edged with notched relief carving throughout their length. The legs terminate in scrolled claw or crescent feet resting on a tripartite plinth base. The circular top centers a variegated stone inlay in tones of rose, cream, and amber, set flush within the wooden surround. Construction is solid throughout, finished in a warm honey lacquer that sharpens every carved detail.
CONDITION
Very good overall; no remarkable damage. Minor scuffs to the top surface. Carving is crisp and intact throughout.
