Chinese Carved Hardwood Stand, Rouge Marble Top — Qing c.1890
Late Qing Chinese export stand in dark, richly patinated carved hardwood, with a shaped quatrefoil top centered by an inset rouge marble panel. A beaded gallery rings the upper edge, and the apron descends in two pierced tiers above robust cabriole legs that terminate in scrolled feet, joined by an arched X-form stretcher.
The upper apron is pierced with confronting chilong dragons set within scrolling foliage. Below, a deeper carved register presents figural cartouches of cranes and deer among foliate scrolls — traditional auspicious motifs of longevity and prosperity in late Qing decorative carving. Acanthus-style leaf scrolls flank the panels, with carved foliate ornament continuing down the knees of each leg.
CONDITION Good. Age-appropriate wear throughout, with surface scratches to the rouge marble inset consistent with long-term use. Joints have been reglued and are stable.
