Description

Bluenose II Schooner Model in Glass Case — Lunenburg, NS Replica

A finely rigged wooden model of the Bluenose II, the Canadian two-masted gaff-rigged schooner launched from Lunenburg, Nova Scotia in 1963 as a sailing replica of the legendary 1921 Bluenose. Designed by William J. Roué and built at the same Smith & Rhuland shipyard as the original, the Bluenose II carries the largest working mainsail in the world. The original Bluenose, captained by Angus Walters, held the International Fishermen's Trophy undefeated for seventeen years and has graced the Canadian dime since 1937.

The model is built plank-on-frame in the ship's signature livery — deep blue topsides, white waterline, red bottom — with a brass hull plaque reading "BLUENOSE II," carved gilt scrollwork at the bow, and the Canadian red ensign flying at the stern. Detail throughout includes hand-stitched cloth sails with sewn paneling and reef points, full standing and running rigging, working ratlines, brass deadeyes and chainplates, belaying pin rails, multiple deckhouses, ship's wheel, capstan, dories, and brass anchor with chain. Approximately 1:60 scale.

Sold with a hardwood-framed display case glazed on all four sides and top, fitted with a brass nameplate reading "BLUENOSE." Note that the model itself bears the "Bluenose II" designation while the case plate reads "Bluenose."

CONDITION Good with no damage noted. Sails remain clean with crisp paneling detail, paint is bright across hull and deck fittings, and the rigging is taut and complete.
