Pair Early American Hand-Forged Iron Andirons Fireplace Dogs
Impressive pair of early American hand-forged wrought iron andirons featuring tall tapered uprights terminating in distinctive hammered ball finials above arched cabriole-style feet. Constructed in heavy solid iron, these substantial fireplace dogs exhibit the irregular hammer marks, organic asymmetry, and forged joinery associated with traditional blacksmith craftsmanship of the late 18th to 19th century.
The restrained sculptural silhouette reflects Colonial and Primitive hearth design, while the elongated standards and ball-top form are characteristic of early “cannonball” style andirons. Their darkened iron surfaces, natural oxidation, and evidence of long use contribute to an authentic aged appearance highly sought after in period interiors. Unmarked and weighing approximately 20 pounds each, the pair offers both functional hearth utility and strong decorative presence in Early American, farmhouse, or rustic settings.
A striking and increasingly difficult-to-find set of antique forged iron hearth accessories with excellent architectural character.
Condition:
Good antique condition with age-appropriate wear and clear signs of use throughout. Surfaces display oxidation, rust, pitting, scratches, finish loss, and irregularities inherent to hand-forged iron construction and prolonged fireplace exposure. Structurally sound and stable with an attractive naturally aged patina.

Overall: 24 1/2 x 10 3/4 x 26 inches
