Art Nouveau Carved Walnut Center Table with Breccia Marble Top
Substantial center table in the Art Nouveau taste, with a rectangular slab of richly variegated breccia marble in shades of coral, rust, amber, and ochre set atop a carved hardwood base. The apron is shaped with a serpentine drop and bordered by an incised molding, while the cabriole legs sweep into stylized fluted hoof-form feet carved with lapping reeded detail at the knees and toes.
The slab itself is the showpiece — a dense brecciated field of angular stone fragments suspended in a darker matrix, polished to a high gloss. Likely Continental, early-to-mid 20th century.
CONDITION
Good overall and sturdy on its legs. The marble top shows a previous repair with etching visible under raking light, along with a chipped corner and fine through-cracks consistent with age. The wood base presents scuffing, age-appropriate wear, and a visible split through the apron at one corner above a leg joint.
