Description

Antique Empire Fiddleback Solid Maple Rocking Armchair

Empire-style rocking armchair with a shaped yoke crest rail above a solid vase-form splat, flanked by turned stiles and double-spindle arm supports terminating in flat, paddle-shaped hand rests. The contoured plank seat sits on bold turned legs joined by a turned center stretcher, riding on shaped maple rockers. Rich dark stain reveals figured grain across the splat and seat.

An honest, sculptural form well suited to a parlor, reading nook, or porch setting.

CONDITION

Fair overall with age-appropriate wear, finish wear and loss, and a wobbly frame — joints need to be re-glued - but still suitable for use. Surface shows scuffs and scattered marks consistent with long use; structurally complete and usable once joints are tightened.
