Beijing Gold Inlaid Lacquer Cabinet, Court Ladies Garden Scene

Two-door cabinet in cinnabar red lacquer, produced by the Beijing Gold Inlaid Lacquer Furniture Factory (金龙 Jinlong), whose original paper label remains on the reverse. Hand-painted decoration covers all visible surfaces: the front doors depict court ladies in a garden landscape with blue-green mountains, a tiled pavilion, and a finely stippled gold pine; the sides carry bird-and-flower vignettes; the top is painted with a perched bird among flowering branches. Black scrolled cartouches and geometric diaper-pattern borders frame each panel. Foliate-form iron hinge plates, studded mounts, and a lobed iron escutcheon fitted with a working brass pin lock and key complete the exterior. Mortise-and-tenon construction throughout; interior is black-lacquered with one removable shelf and brass cap feet. Magnet does not adhere to the hardware, consistent with brass and iron fittings rather than ferrous steel.

CONDITION

Good with minor imperfections. Light scuffing and minor lacquer wear consistent with age and use; original key present and lock operational. Factory label is intact but creased and partially worn at edges.
