1969 Nixon-Agnew Inaugural Invitation — Gold Seal, Envelope, Order Forms

Complete invitation packet from the January 20, 1969 inauguration of Richard Milhous Nixon as 37th President and Spiro Theodore Agnew as Vice President. The invitation features a gold embossed presidential inaugural seal above engraved calligraphic script, issued by the Inaugural Committee and signed by Chairman J. Willard Marriott (founder of the Marriott hotel chain). Addressed to Doctor and Mrs. M. A. Hoghaug of Grand Forks, North Dakota, with the original mailing envelope postmarked Washington, D.C., January 1969.

The set includes the engraved invitation, original "Do Not Bend" outer mailing envelope, color portrait of President-elect Nixon, the "Special Orders 1969 Official Inaugural Souvenirs" booklet with order forms for the silver and bronze medallions, commemorative license plates, parade tickets, and the Official Inaugural Book reservation card. Also includes the Inaugural Activities calendar listing the Gala, Concert, Ceremony, Parade, and Ball, the Important Notice information sheet, and the reply envelope pre-addressed to J. Willard Marriott at The Pension Building. A 1960 "Speak Up for Good Government — Vote November 8, 1960" Standard Oil dealer poster from Hansen's Standard Service in Minneapolis is included as a bonus Nixon-era political ephemera piece.

CONDITION

Very Good. Paper stock is clean and bright across the invitation, inserts, and Nixon portrait, with crisp engraving and intact gold seal. Light handling marks to the outer mailing envelope consistent with postal transit; faint edge toning to the 1960 Standard Oil poster.
