Lightolier Saucer Pendant Chandelier — Pierced Brass, 1950s
Mid-century modern saucer pendant chandelier by Lightolier, circa 1950s. A wide white-painted metal disc reflector floats above a cluster of three pierced brass cone downlight cups, each pinpricked to throw a starlight pattern when illuminated. Polished brass downrod stem with pointed brass finials at the base of each cone — a classic atomic-age silhouette in the vocabulary associated with Gerald Thurston's designs for Lightolier.
Maker confirmed by the original green Lightolier paper label affixed to the reflector underside, accompanied by Underwriters' Laboratories and Union Made stickers (serial A 36670811). The form is widely sought by mid-century collectors and designers for use over dining tables, kitchen islands, and entryways.
CONDITION Good. Tested and functional, with all three sockets lighting as shown in the photographs. Brass cones show scattered scratching, light pitting, and surface tarnish concentrated on the outer faces; the white reflector has minor scuffs and paint loss along the edge. Wiring is exposed at the top of the stem and will require rewiring and hardwiring by a licensed electrician prior to installation.
CONDITION Good condition. Fully functional and tested. Scuffing to the brass cones as shown.
