Atomic Floor Lamp Two-Tier Fiberglass Shade Brass Iron Foliate Stem 59"
An American mid-1950s atomic-era floor lamp in black-enameled iron and polished brass, with a hexagonal stem rising from a domed brass base and meeting a faceted brass jewel at mid-height. Two stylized sheet-metal foliate forms — one black, one cream — flare outward from the jewel like opening leaves, framing an interior socket. The sculptural foliage and slender vertical proportions place the design firmly in the atomic-age vocabulary that defined American mid-century lighting.
Crowning the lamp is the original two-tier whip-stitched fiberglass shade — the most-replaced component on lamps of this era and increasingly difficult to source intact. Beneath the outer shade, an internal torchiere with a milk-glass dome provides a second light source through the same 3-way switch, giving two distinct lighting levels from one fixture. The switch housing carries a hexagonal "F" mark consistent with period American socket hardware. Shade, glass dome, brass fittings, and finish are all original.
CONDITION
Good and fully functional, tested working. Finish wear and small paint losses along the iron stem, most visible on the upper section. Light verdigris and finish wear around the lower edge of the brass base.
