Chinese Rosewood Jewelry Chest with Brass Shou Medallion & Mounts
A Chinese hardwood jewelry chest in the traditional form, fitted with a hinged lift-top compartment over two graduated drawers and raised on bracket feet. The top panel is centered by a pierced brass medallion rendered as a stylized Shou (longevity) character, framed by engraved brass corner mounts with floral and foliate detail. Matching engraved escutcheon, drawer pulls, and oval side carry handles complete the hardware program.
The interior is fully lined in red velvet, with the upper compartment opening to a flat tray and the drawers fitted with partitioned ring rolls and open storage wells. Construction is consistent with mid-20th century Hong Kong or southern Chinese export production executed in a rosewood-family hardwood.
CONDITION
Fair overall. Wear and light soiling to the red velvet lining throughout, with a chip to the front right edge of the case and drawers that are difficult to open. Hardware is intact with mellow patina; case finish presents well with minor surface marks consistent with age and use.
