Description

1964 Beatles Lot — Saturday Evening Post, KQEO Tour Book & Songbook

A three-piece grouping of early Beatlemania-era American print ephemera, all dating to 1964. Includes the March 21, 1964 issue of The Saturday Evening Post (237th Year, Issue No. 11) featuring the cover story "The Secret of The Beatles," an intimate account of the band's first American tour with the now-iconic group portrait of John, Paul, George and Ringo with their instruments. The interior feature "Ringo Spotted a Girl Singer and Yanked Her Into an Elevator" runs across multiple pages with photographs from the Ed Sullivan rehearsal in Miami Beach and fan-mob imagery.

Also included is The Beatles souvenir tour book published by Highlight Publications, Albany, NY, by agreement with PYX Productions Ltd., London (©1964) — the gray-suit cover variant bearing a stamped "KQEO" radio station mark in the upper right, tying the piece to the Albuquerque AM Top-40 station that was a major Beatles promoter in the Southwest during the 1964 tour. Rounding out the lot is The Beatle Book of Recorded Hits Sing Along Album (Pacific Popular Guitar Album No. 1, PP-1), a 26-page songbook with words, music, guitar chords and lyric sheets for "I Saw Her Standing There," "She Loves You," "Twist and Shout," "All My Loving," "Please Please Me," "From Me to You" and others, with Northern Songs/Gil Music Corp. 1963–64 copyrights.

CONDITION

Good overall with age-appropriate wear consistent with 60-year-old newsstand publications. The Saturday Evening Post shows cover creasing, edge wear and surface scuffing; the KQEO tour book shows light soiling and a small stain to the front cover; the songbook shows toning and minor handling wear. All three remain complete and intact with legible text and bright interior imagery.
