Victorian Sterling Silver Repoussé Handle Button Hook, Floral Scrollwork
A Victorian-era button hook with a sterling silver repoussé handle in the Art Nouveau taste, featuring deeply chased acanthus scrollwork surrounding a vacant cartouche and a delicate floral spray descending toward the ferrule. The handle is marked STERLING within the design. Button hooks of this form were essential dressing-table tools for fastening the long rows of buttons on Victorian and Edwardian boots, gloves, and gaiters.
CONDITION
Good overall with strong crisp detail to the repoussé pattern. A visible dent to the hollow handle as noted by the consignor, with expected tarnish and patina throughout — we'll leave the polishing to you. Steel shaft and hook intact with light surface wear.
